Whether you're smoking a pack a day or a pack a week, your cigarettes are going to cost you more. A whole 88 cents more, to be precise. The excise duties on a pack of cigarettes will now be rising to R7,70, the minister of finance, Trevor Manuel, announced in his 2009 budget speech.
Use this tool to find out exactly how much you spend on cigarettes. You're probably in for a shock. Just think, if you can get it together to quit smoking, you might be able to take all that cash and go on a fabulous holiday at the end of the year.
